Comments for Beatles, The, Anthology Vol. 3

I never thought I'd say this, but, well, the Beatles are awful on this album. I'd expected a lot of outtakes from the rooftop concert, but I'm satisfied with Get Back.

ALL IN ALL IT IS THE BEST ANTHOLOGY , BUT IT DOES NOT HAVE REVOLUTION ON IT AND THAT DISAPPOINTED ME GREATLY.

I equally love all of the Beatle's records and this one leaves me with that same feeling. No matter what they do it's great. Long live the Beatles!

I don't know, but how can anyone not be facinated by any recording by these guys. I used to pay a forune for alternative recordings by The Beatles, and here, so many years later, are superb quality out takes. If you love the Beatles, if you don't well, get lost with your criticisms!

Isn't it amazing to hear Paul's Junk and Teddy Boy demos, when he was still with the Beatles. The out takes where great on this album. George's Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps were awesome.

i thought that the anthologies were great!!! i'm only a junior in college and i think that the beatles are the greatest. my favorite was paul's come and get it, i love that song!!
E-MAIL: Kheist@aol.com
This anthology is better than any of the Beatles's studio albums. Many of the songs are even better than the original studio releases! The Long and Winding Road is absolutely beautiful, along with While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Blackbird, Mother Nature's Son, and (start cussing me out) Helter Skelter. Simple is sometimes better. If there was one Beatles album I could take with me to heaven, this would definitely be it! May the music of the Beatles carry on forever! Peace out!

This anthology is great - just a little miffed about what didn't make it. I hope that they eventually decide to officially release the "Get Back" album once and for all. since they released outtakes of thesongs w/ laughing etc. Was also hoping for the 6 minute "Dig It" Well, can't complain because (1) it's The Beatles & (2) They left "What's The New Mary Jane" complete!!!!!!!!!!!!! not butchered like "12 Bar Blues" or "Christmas Time Is Here Again"

I don't know what in the hell people are saying about this album. It is the best Anthology put out by them. It shows all of the love that they shared between them and the love that they possessed for the writing of their music. They will forever be legends of rock and roll. This album will prove anyone wrong if they say opposite. As said in one of the last recordings of the Beatles together, "And in the end, the love you make, is equal to the love you take."

The best of the three Anthologies. The Beatles music will last forever. My personal favorite is The Long and Winding Road. I was thrilled to no end when the pre-Specter version was released. I also think more songs from the rooftop concert should have been released,as well as Revolution.

Ahh....what a tasty treat THIS was! Most of the acoustic demo's were truly superior to the finished copies placed on albums. The entire anthology series was an answer to my prayers. You always wondered what the outtakes, and different arrangements actually sounded like. God bless the Beatles! And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make!
E-MAIL: jzanotto@inreach.com
This is by far the best Anthology release. Finally, they managed to fill up each disc with over 70 min. of music. The Esher demos are all absolutely priceless. I really liked the version of Lennon's "Cry Baby Cry" on this release. It has much more feeling to it than that on the White Album. I especially liked George Harrison's "Not Guilty". That would have been a great addition to the white album, also, his demos of "Something", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", and "All Things Must Pass" are really great. However there was to much Paul McCartney on the album. This seems to be the problem with all of the Anthology albums. I wonder what these would have been like if John were alive today. (P.S. How come there was no version of "Revolution", the live version on the video set would have done just fine).

Beatlemania Forever!!!!!!!!! This Anthology Cd is no doubt the greatest. The Beatles are absolutley the greatest band that ever lived. I hope they live long and forever in people's hearts, I know they will forever be in mine!!!!!

If I were a Beatle, I'd be George or Ringo. P.S. "My name's Ringo and I play the drums..."
E-MAIL: scottm@the.alamo.com
Least interesting of the 3 Anthologies. Mostly just acoustic demos of the material from 68 & 69. Too much McCartney on here of course. Thank God they hardly played live during this time or we'd undoubtably have to sit through yet another rendition of "Yesterday". As it is we get an inevitable "Blackbird" & "Rocky Raccoon" - why, for God's sake? But we do get "What's the New Mary Jane" - which should have been on the WHite Album and is damn cool. And George's "Not Guilty" with some interesting lyrics. Still they didn't pick much of the really interesting stuff from this era - "Yer Blues" with apache indians appended to the front & better lyrics, tongue-in-cheek anti-immigrant "Get Back", George playing stuff acoustically - none of that is here. This is ok but less exciting (and less comprehensively done) than the first two.

I am severely sorry for the cruel thing I said about this album it took me several tries to finally rate it as the best anthology of all. A must have for B fans.

For your information, cedavid@pegasus.rutgers.edu, 12 Bar Blues was not butchered! That was all they had left of that take because it had been rewound and recorded over and the bit that you hear is ALL THAT'S LEFT!!!

I don't have this anthology yet, or #1 because I can't find them! Does anybody know a place to find these at a decent price in Virginia or Colorado?

I have loved the Beatles since I sat there in my living room in Feb. '63 and saw them live on the Ed Sullivan Show. But, regrettably, this album was totally uninspiring. It reminded me of some people playing Beatles songs very badly. "Come Together" didn't have the haunting mystique, as on Abbey Road -- it was just John Lennon sounding angry. The whole album just seemed like a rehash of Beatles songs with very few new elements. The few exceptions: John and Paul doing a duet on "Oh Darling", that was interesting. And George's plaintive "Something" -- you could really tell he was singing about a woman he loved dearly. But for the most part, the album was a yawn. I'd much rather hear the finished versions. (P.S. Too bad there could not be more of the behind-the-scenes talking, to give us insights into the creative genious of these guys. But, as I understand it, George Martin shut off the tape machine when they were just sitting around talking, a decision which he greatly regrets today).

Of all of the anthologies, this is the one that I have listened to over and over again. This set truly shows what The Beatles were - a GREAT BAND. You can't deny their untouchable talent as musicians on this set. Obviously they touched so many different musical areas. It's completely amazing to me that George Harrison can move me so dramatically with just an electric guitar and a little song called "Something." The track "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" had much the same effect on me. I am a Sir Paul fan extrodinaire, yet these two George songs are my favorites on this collection, which showed me, and pleasantly so, that George Harrison was quite the underrated musician. And to hear John and Paul singing together so beautifully in "Oh Darling" was a real treat, especially knowing that they were so close to breaking up at this time. And honestly -- what other band could stir so much in so many people with their studio takes almost 30 years after the fact? So many of you out there have already said this, but I must join in the chant -- LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!

Anthology 3 is definitely the best one of the three, although it makes it seem as though the Beatles were on good terms throughout this period. The alternate versions are excellent. My personal favorite on this anthology is the rooftop version of Get Back.

This was the finest of the anthologies in my opinion. The acoustic White Album demos were excellent, and the inclusion of rarities such as Not Guilty and What's the New Mary Jane were great. Although the album rocks, there were a few glaring omissions, namely Revolution and the full-length version of Dig It. Oh well, maybe there will be more to come from the Beatles' vaults. One could only hope.

anthology 3 was the least inspiring for a collector. More sonically live versions of many of these numbers have been on boots for years. So many better songs from the Get Back Sessions have been left untapped, which makes me believe our next compilation (in time for christmas) will be from these sessions. Of course, its great to hear anything new, and there were a few things previously unbooted on Ant3, but overall this set just had a crappy feel to it
