The style is NOT rap! hard to define.. these bristol bands like Portishead, Tricky and Massive Attack are very unique.. close to hip hop and rap but not the same at all.

this album is not rap. it has no definite style; look at "Black Steel"

Tricky's maxinquaye is the greatest thing to come out this decade. It is mellow as hell, but it has a nice hard edge. Dreamy lyrics and music make the whole thing very very listenable. you should go buy this.. im serious... it is freakin great! 00 ps -- smoke till your senseless and THEN listen to the album, you'll pick up on all the good stuff then

The album starts off as solid trip-hop, then ends up falling into typical r&b shit. Still one of the best albums of 1995. ‹‹‹

True to the genre, a nice, trippy, trip-hop album. Those who feel that the shoegazer/dreampop world has gotten a bit dull might enjoy this departure. Do not operate heavy equipment while listening.

Tricky seduced me with the haunting lyrics as soon as I heard them. Lyrics would be nice. rock on. ()rEalOne--?

Great album!! Like the bastard child of Bjork, Public Enemy and Portishead. Can anybody send me the lyrics to Maxinquaye? I'd be thankful.

This album is definelty NOT hip hop. It is however trip hop. I have been a Tricky fan for ages and I am going to see him in concert at Clutch Cargos in Pontiac Michigan October 11,1999. Its going to be one hell of a concert. Bye the way, did you know that the title of this album "maxinquaye" is actually Trickys mothers name. Just a little info for ya. Anyway if u like this music please email me as i have had the pleasure of listening to many other groups with the same sounds.
Any band that has their own personal combat vehicle is OK in my book.
