Comments for U2, Achtung Baby

The album that spawned a monster. Here U2 made the leap from self-righteousness to self-parody, and brilliant it is too

*** (5 star scale)-- I really feel that this album was overrated, at the same time I don't think enough real u2 fans gave it enough credit. Yes, it was experimental, and completely opposite of what the band was trying to accomplish on previous efforts, but amidst all the smoke of the commercialism, Achtung has some pretty good songwriting. Basically, I think that Bono and the gang were just giving the press and media the biggest hand-job they've ever recieved, and the media fell right into it. --J.teel

I don't care what the rest of you think. This is BY FAR the best modern U2 album. (*****)/5 Sure, "One" and "Mysterious Ways" were played more on the radio than any of us cared to hear, but there are more meaningful songs on that album. Take for instance my personal favorite "Ultraviolet (Light My Way)". Deep, deep lyrics. Read between the lines, gentlemen.

U2 should've stopped with this one. Zooropa was a real bomb. (At least in my ears).

The best album I have ever heard. The power of the album as a whole is second to none. They were deep on The Joshua Tree but they just got a whole lot deeper! The album has a lot of memories for me and I doubt that it will ever leave my CD collection. ( The question of Zooropa not living up to AB surrounds their level of touring. Rattle and Hum was released on the back of The Joshua Tree tour. R+H had much the same critisisms as Zooropa has had, I think it is merely the result of tiredness. If you Listen to the album it does come accross as tired! Having said that I stll rate Zooropa very highly, ). Steve Hamilton.

The very best from U2. Timed just right as the industry was crying out for some decent music at a time when all you got was techno/garage crap or soft metal. Essex Bulldog.

When people rate this album so low, it trully hurts. When people tell me that Bono is so full of himself in this album I fell sorry for them. What these people don't understand is that when you listen to U2 you have open up and embrace it. Everything off the album is suprisingly deep. So Cruel, my fave, is an excellent song which shows this. The End of the World is a perfect example. U2 has consistently gotten darker through the years. I still hope though that they don't hit pitch black. That's just a little too much depressing music.

Guys, there is a wonderful set of articles in Rolling Stone that will give you a good feel for this music. Speaking of music, how about we listen to this CD and stop trying to measure it up to the "Tree." As a stand-alone album and not as a follow-up to the "Tree Stuff," this album is excellent. Songwriting craftsmanship is very clear in The End of the World, not to mention others. Yes, the band was manipulating the media like mu21dm@surrey. ac.uk said, and yes, this album has a distinctly non-U2 sound (I'd call it Industrial) but it is STILL a wonderful album. One of my favorites.

Achtung Baby is another album for U2 that once again defines them as ahead of their time. For those fans that have the Achtung Baby videos cameos and a whole lot of interference. You would have seen Bono at the end of a concert saying "It's time for us to go away for awhile and dream it all up aqain." That's exactly what they did and brought Rock N Roll to new limits with their Zoo TV tour to compliment the album. This album will go down as one of the top albums of all time. For all you Greatfull Dead fans I'd hate to say it but U2 is one of the all-time greatest bands that will always be remembered with the likes of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Led Zeppelin, as Rock Gods that changed the face of Rock N Roll. Stay tuned for the next album due out at the end of the year.

This album showed that U2 is one of the greatest bands ever. Finally people should realize that Edge is one of the great guitarists of our time, along with Jimmy Page and Eddie Van Halen. Listen to "The Fly" if you don't believe me.

Their best album ever, brilliant master piece

What can I say.... There are "One" and "Mysterious way" that is....two good reasons to live! But please tell me, why don't we kill Brian Eno? I WANT THE U2 BACK!!! STOP THE PASSENGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
E-MAIL: frace@pop.total.net
This album is one of the best U2 albums. It was so different from Joshua Tree and the albums before that, but it gave birth to a new and more « electronical » U2. And that was a good thing. My favorite songs are « Even Better Than The Real Thing», « One », « Until the end of the world», « Mysterious Ways» and « Trying to throw your arms around the World». If you don't have this album, go buy it !!!

Achtung Baby is arguably U2's best album. there isn't one song on it that I don't like and it really takes a hold on you. The album display's U2's ability to adapt to different styles of music in their own, unique, and brilliant way. It is too hard to single out favs because all the songs are great, on the album, or on live recordings during ZooTV. ZooTV even added another dimension to the album. For instance Zoo Station live sounds better than it does on Achtung Baby.

This is one of there best. Alot of U2 fans just couldn't handle change. One is the greatest song in the history of music. I don't listen to the radio so I never got tired of it

ACHTUNG BABY, WHAT AN EMOTIONAL ALBUM. TRACKS LIKE "ONE","UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD","WHOSE GONNA RIDE YOU WILD HORSES","SO CRUEL" AND "LOVE IS BLINDNESS" MAKES ME STOP AND LISTEN.WHILE MY FAVOURITE TRACKS ARE" MYSTERIOUS WAYS" AND "THE FLY". THE EDGE'S GUITAR SOLO ON THE "THE FLY" IS EXCELLENT AND I WAKE UP TO" MYSTERIOUS WAYS" EVERY MORNING.*****(5 STARS OUT OF 5) EXCELLENT.

I have been a U2 fan for a while and this album is one of the best I have heard. It is very deep and musically sophicticated. I would rate One as being in the top 10 songs ever written. It just gets better everytime you here it. I never get bored of it. Tunes like Until the end of the world has influenced modern rock groups. The album combines dance and rock, and great lyrics in a winning combination. But I must confess that I do like the Joshua Tree better. My favourite U2 lyric is "Don't let the bastards grind you down" from the acrobat. Dream out Load Ratty ps any teenage U2 fans feel free to e-mail me

U2 rules Achtung baby rules Bono rules

This was an awesome album. My dad got me started on U2, he loved 'em when they were still a small cult-following band. Achtung Baby is (at least for me) the first U2 album I could listen all the waythrough WITHOUT skipping a track! Every other album has songs that are like so-so, but Achtung Baby is pure gold all the way through. I'm too young to remember the songs being played on the radio, though I just hear 'One' a few days ago. I'm also tired of hearing all my teenage friends talk about how 'old' U2 is. Those poor souls have never heard 'The Joshua Tree' or any of U2's older stuff. They'd rather listen to their meaningless Backstreet Boy and Britany Spears crap! :)

the beginning of the end for them...
