It's a musical journey(to quote Larry Mullen Jnr.)! This album had U2 delving into the exploration of American music. From gospel to blues to rock and roll, they covered it all. The product being Rattle and Hum. Perhaps the title of the album is supposed to be synonomous with 'rock and roll'. To me this album represented U2's final acceptance of what they were and the acceptance that if they couldn't fight it they should at least embrace it. "Rattle and Hum" was an album of transition, just as "The Unforgettable Fire" was. With the making of "Rattle and Hum", U2 changed, forever.

****1/2 (5 star scale)-- Rattle and Hum was defintely a musical journey, with everything from great studio work to spontaneous live recordings, and then little 30 second ditties to fill in the album sides. Not only was this the last great U2 album, but it also proved to be the band's transitional record, which was followed by the commercially hyped Achtung Baby. I think Rattle and Hum was a tremendous retrospective for one of the best bands of the eighties. PRIME CUTS: "Desire","Hawkmoon","God part II","All I Want is You",probably the band's best song of all time, plus excellent live versions of "Silver and Gold","Pride", and "Bullet the BLue Sky"--J.teel

I think that this is the real rock n'roll album

I heard this long before I saw the movie; boy, did the movie seem great after knowing all the songs. This album has it all: good studio album songs, killer live tracks and lots of ear candy (similar to They Might Be Giants Miscellaneous T.) By far one of my favorites.

This albumn lacks U2's original heart, Christian values, meaning and originality. This was a "new and improved" U2 that like most "new and improved" things, turned out to be a disappointment.

This is not really one of U2's greatest albums, but "Heartland" and "All I Want is You" are two of their finest songs, and there are many other shining moments.

Most boring U2 album, though some good songs. Dull lyrics.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END AS FAR AS U2 BEING STRAIGHT IS CONCERNED - IT CONTAINS SOME OF THE LAST DYING STRAINS OF THE GREAT STRAIGHT BAND THAT WAS U2; FLASHES OF THAT REAPPEAR ONLY SPORADICALLY ON NEWER SONGS LIKE "ONE", "STAY", "WAKE UP DEAD MAN" AND "STARING AT THE SUN". SOME OF YOU HAVE SAID THAT THIS LP IS BORING, BUT AFTER LISTENING TO STUFF LIKE "PLEASE" AND "LAST NIGHT ON EARTH" I THINK I CAN EVEN TOLERATE HAWKMOON 269, THE STUPIDEST SONG ON THE ALBUM. AND MAYBE COLLABORATING WITH DYLAN WASN'T SUCH A GOOD IDEA. STILL THIS ALBUM IS WORTH HAVING IF ONLY FOR "SILVER AND GOLD" AND "HEARTLAND". THE LYRICS ARE NICE TOO - A BIT ELLIPTICAL, BUT NOT ALL THAT BUKOWSKI-CARVER-BURROUGHS CRAP LIKE THE SO-CALLED LYRICS OF ZOOROPA, POP AND A BIT OF ONE. WHY, BONO, WHY?

A NICE MIXTURE OF LIVE AND STUDIO SONG.I LIKE "HELTER SKELTER", "DESIRE", "SILVER AND GOLD", "PRIDE", "ANGEL OF HARLEM", "THE STAR SPRANGLED BANNER",WHICH CRASHES STRAIGHT INTO "BULLET THE BLUE SKY".NICE PICTURE OF BONO SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON THE EDGE DURING THE SOARING GUITAR DURING "BULLET THE BLUE SKY".
