** (5 star scale) Yuck. Save the techno for the German bands, fellas. --j.teel

A great album, but maybe a turnoff to hard core U2 fans because of the "newer" sound. A really good mood album.

If 1987's Joshua Tree was U2's Revolver and 1991's Achtung Baby was their Sgt. Pepper, this follows as their Magical Mystery Tour. Simply put, a forced artistic hangover.

Absolutely stunning album. It is either listen to zooropa or watch a sheep being dipped for me anyday.
E-MAIL: tgraham@fox.nstn.ca
Well, if the proverb refering to things coming in three's is credible, put on you gas mask for the next U2 release. Both Zooropa, and Achtung stink real bad. Hey, mabey they'll call their next effort knockwurst, or garlic fingers, or mabey even name it after one of thier favorite stinky cheese flavors or something. Do yourself a favor, and spend your CD money on something better than this. I'm sure if you looked through the bargin bin at the local record store you could pick up some real cool NKOTB or ABBA CD's.

i am sick and tired of reading about how people don't like the direction that the boys have taken. it is called progression, which is much better than sticking with what works. people need to learn accept that "the tree" was a one-time deal and to keep making music that sounds similar, the band would be compromising themselves as artists. zooropa is an excellent follow up to achtung. deeply moving and somewhat magical. i am anxiously awaiting their next step!

As a true lover of all of U2's music, I can never be disappointed by a "new" direction for the boys from Ireland...it is their ability to change that keeps my interest - anything less than that and I'd loose inter- est in 'em. Zooropa is a great change...keep at it guys!!

***** Beautiful. I don't know what to say, I love this stuff. Sarah Marriage

I think it is a new sound. Maybe you don't like it at first (at least not so much as Achtung) but when you get used to it, it's very cool. It's the sound of future music, music with technology but not for technology.

U2: I will follow!

Waaa-Lauuuu, very deep laaaa. The progressional build up is still there, especially in track one(Zooropa). This album lives up to my expecta˙tions. Cool in a mystical way.

"The Wanderer" with J. Cash, is a great song. The background (Bono's voice) is the best. This song is "CHEVERE".

ok, so you hate something new. the key to zooropa is acceptance of something new. If you're not going to give it a chance, don't bother buying it and then whining here...

Some people still don't get it. U2 is not about rock anymore. It's about getting messages across. Obvisously Joeland@ matt.ksu.ksu.edu and tgraham@fox have their minds closed while their ears are open. About that German techno stuff you've obvisously never heard Alphaville. But, that road is the one U2 is not embracing, like you say, U2 is embracing every medium they can. It's one hellava ride but every album is excellent. People should wake up and really listen to the lyrics and how they're coming across. But, obviously these people think U2 is about this guy named, uh, Bono, I think, and with this guitar guy named the Hedge and they, like, play some tunes. I saw their movie! Doesn't that make me eligible to say they suck? --These people have no right to judge Zooropa--

I always love U2 but... I still prefer "The Joshua Tree"! And don't be hungry with me! Greetings from Milano Italy!

I love U2 and everything, but this album really sucks.

This album opened the door of U2 to me. I heard their songs before, but I didn´t know who was playing. I liked the songs then but when I heard "Zooropa" in the radio, I needed to know what was that, and when I got the name, went to look for more albums. It was just the tip of the iceberg: the more I knew, the more I liked this music. Now that I listened to every single song I could, my favorite album is (another one bites the dust) "The Joshua Tree", but I´m tired of people like graham@fox or wathever his name is (excuse me, at this point I forgot his name), that just criticyze without a true knowledge--someone that loves NKOTB´s music just deserve the worst comments from me (I hate those groups that just sing and jump, believing their voice gives them any musical value, and with those stupid, without-a-true-sense lyrics...come on, what have given to music these choruses?). Anyway, I´m ready for the next step, and any way the folks of U2 choose (their old rock sound or the new alternative song) I´ll listening with atention, joy...and without prejudice. THE TRUE GHOST RIDER.

While this album has it's strong points: Lemon, The First Time, and Zooropa, it not a consistently good album like its predecessors Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby. I have heard that Zooropa was never intended to be a full album, but an EP which was written while on tour, which may help explain its mediocrity. While I enjoy many of the songs on Zooropa. There are quite a few duds: Babyface, Daddy's Gonna Pay for Your Crashed Car, Dirty Day, and The Wanderer. However I have to admit that one thing that has stayed the same are the meaty lyrics. Byron

Very good album. Especially made for this era with all of these "direct" communication interaction.

Alongside Metallica, U2 have sold out more than any band I can think of. Progression is one thing, compromising is quite another. Any shred of their early sound on the three records prior to this one, is completely gone without a trace. There's no turning back for U2 now, and hopefully they'll retire soon. That way, we won't have to worry about them them shiting out another record this bad again.
E-MAIL: mcronin@clynch.com
Zooropa, is not a consistent album. It's not meant to be. It's a spontaneous reaction to the Zoo Tour. While most U2 albums are crafted with heavy, heavy premeditation, this one is slapped together like a burger at a fast food restaurant. And I don't know about you, but I LOVE fast food. Whoever said U2 no longer has any shred of the musical trademarks they created in their first three albums, obviously has no clue about music. Those trademarks are still there. They've just evolved. And the band continues to create new trademarks. THANK GOD. Can you imagine what the world would be like if bands just kept making the same music over and over again. Evolution is what makes a band great. And all you have to do is listen to Boy and Zooropa back to back and you'll hear the evolution. If you still lament the loss of the "old" U2, let it go. Open your mind and listen to what the new U2 is doing. Because if you don't, you're missing out on something very special. It's the equivelent of not listening to anything the Beatles did after Revolver.

There's a lot of crap out there about U2 reinventing themselves with Achtung and this album. Who gives a damn if the music is different? At least the band is willing to try new things, which is more than can be said for some bands!

Great album ! Beautiful, futuristic...it deserves more than a 7.7 out of 10 !

An eternal album - to those who have ears to hear and no mind-blockers in their heads. The others don't matter cos they are dumb suckers who want to stay in the 80's forever. Leave them there.

eek this album is good but sometimes it gives me diarhea.

The sellout crap is getting beyond old....prey tell me what thewy had to sell out to, Zooropa isn''t even that accessible. Besides...why should we expect a band to stay the same? Personally, my music taste is changing constantly...and I just get really ticked when fans get mad at a band for changing their sound. Anyway...Zooropa for me is a mood album. Sometimes, their combination of the numbness of the modern world with the etheral sounds u2 is known for really resonate with me...kind of a musical expression of finding humanity in a world growing less humane everyday and other times I find the mood of the album to dark to relate with. Still, this album has some great stuff...first time, zooropa and stay come to mind..and regardless of it being made by a "80''s" band, I think its one of my fave albums of this "alternative" era.
Album is basis for Zoo-TV. Slightly more techno/dance thanthe usual U2, but excellent nonetheless.
