Comments for Various Artists, Boys on the Side - Original Motion Picture SoundtrackE-MAIL: fairall@server.uwindsor.ca I also love this cd and the movie is actually very good. I expeted it to be a Thelma and Lousie rip-off but I was very surprised. It''s become on of my favorite movies of 1995. The soundtrack is a good compilation of female singers although an essential collection of women singer/ songwriters in the 90''s would also have to include Natalie Merchant, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Aimee Mann. Oh well, you can''t have everything. Whats here is very good. I think that the best track by far is Pretenders "Everyday is Like Sunday." I''m also glad that they included Whoopi singing "You Got it" although to wasn''t really necessary to include Bonnie Raitt''s version twice on the album. Once at the beginning and then just have Whoopi''s version close the cd would have been more effective. Without a doubt, one of the greatest compilations of 1995, and probably a hell of a lot better than the movie (I didn`t see it; I boycott anything Drew Barrymore participates in). This is a collaboration of old and new by some of the best female singer-songwriters around. You`ve got great classics ("Why" by Annie Lennox), remakes of classics (Sheryl Crow`s "Keep on Growing"), and even brand-new stuff such as Stevie Nicks` "Somebody Stand By Me," (which incidentally was written by Sheryl Crow as well.)The main song is, of course, Bonnie Raitt`s fabulous remake of "You Got It." But arguably the best song on the album is Sarah McLachlan`s rendition of Tom Waits` "Ol` 55", which I have been hooked on ever since the first time I played it.There is a lot of good material on the album. It`s a must-have for anyone who is into the female singer-songwriter genre. Or anyone who likes good music.Comments supplied by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Roadkill Consulting, Inc. |
