great album. love it. i play it often as an adult. One Love is spiritual and Suffer the Little Children is deep, sad and thought provoking . this album was recomended by a right wing group of sorts (really) teachers or something. Cerebral Man is her rock song in style and voice.Too Long a Solder is fab fab fab what a voice in the end of that song almost pleading SHE EMOTES like no other praise and scream for her

Arguably her best album of the 1980s - half the ten songs deal with personal relationships, the others deal with social and political issues (corporate sellout, child abuse, war, working class suffering, drug abuse). The album combines the energy and commercial touch of Crimes of Passion with the intelligence and lyrical depth of Seven The Hard Way. The title refers to having one's eyes opened (Wide Awake) to the problems that exist in society (Dreamland), and the lyrics are strong in its imagery to bring that point home. Vocally her most powerful effort; the LP cover is excellent, and the musicianship is top-notch. And the back-cover logo is classic.
