You are apparently listening to a different album than I. The album contains some truly great songs ... smart, well crafted, well played. From one end to the other it's a delight.

The great songs on this album definitely outweigh the average songs. Go buy it now!

Not as easily listenable album as "Black sea" Boyzone fans, don't bother (see "Black sea"-review)

Contrary to the above "sucks, sucks, sucks" comments and the rather patronizing positive ones, people interested in this band should understand that "Oranges And Lemons" continued their upward swing creatively, the one that started with "Mummer" in the middle eighties. It''s a monumental pop album (only bettered in the XTC catalogue by its follow-up, the wonderful "Nonsuch"). Although O&L wears its Beatles influences proudly, it is squarely XTC, chock full of memorable and surprising melodic swoops that stay forever imbedded in that part of the brain that stores such things. Not only is this melodic, pop treasure (almost) as good as XTC gets, it''s pretty much as good as anyone working in this vein has ever gotten. Beatles are more significant because they launched this kind of music, but (really), if this had been released by the Beatles near the end of their careers, it would be remembered as one of the best albums they ever released. But they didn''t. So, just be thankful that XTC, led by the immensely talented tunesmith Andy Partridge, is around to carry their legacy forward. Yes, forward. I''m not sure it''s possible to like the Beatles and dislike this album, Mr. Sucks Sucks Sucks.
Don`t forget that Dukes of the Statosphere is XTC underanother name.
