Very similar to its predecessor ... They seem still looking for a precise direction. I don't discuss the musical capabilities shown in their first two albums, but the songs still don't sound very good. I like "Time and a word", but I do prefer its live version to the original. Pete Banks leaves the group after that, but I do believe no YES fan will ever regret him, discovering his substitute ... GL

INSPIRATION is what "YES" is all about, that's where their great unique rock and roll comes from. Like "Yes", my primary source of inspiration is the GREAT SPIRIT potentially inside all of us. Among my finest influences in reaching some of that spiritual potential have been the great rock & roll group "Yes", and the spiritually inspiring books written by "KEN CAREY". How do you rate inspiration? "Yes" & "Ken Carey" get 10's in my "opinion". -Ed McConnell

A very underrated album! It mixes Anderson's voice, some orchestral strings & stuff, & the usual sophisticated instrumental interplay into a unique whole. It sounds a bit dated - "of its time" - but pretty cool. Again, if you like 60's psychedelic music then you should check this out. "Astral traveler" is fantastic - Squire & Bruford have really hit the mark at this point. Lots of nice stuff on here, fairly mellow in tone, and the version of Buffalo Springfield's "Everydays" beats the original.

Bruford and Squire are really the strengths of this set. Especially Squire's over the top bass line on No Experience ...

my least favorite Yes album. On a few songs they experiment with a background orchestra, and it just doesn''t mesh very well. "Astral Traveller" is even a bit annoying, with Jon''s vocals distorted weirdly. I''d recommend the BBC sessions on YesYears, which proves that these songs can stand pretty well alone without the orchestral meddling.
Good album...The orchestral accompaniement doesn`t alwayswork, though
