This album, if nothing else, was the grandfather of any and all "fusion" music to follow...it's a wonderful achievement.

I have this album produced at 1969 not at 1971.

No vocals by Frank or the mothers on this album, this is almost exclusively Frank solo with Ian Underwood and Jean-luc Ponty Captain Beefheart sings Willie The Pimp

This was remixed by Frank in 1987 to include some extra material from the origninal sessions. My first and favorite Zappa album! The solos on "The Gumbo Variations" are killers.

This album illustrates convincingly to anybody who cares the genius of Frank Zappa. Not only is this evident in his guitar and octave bass playing, (his guitar playing ability far outdoes anybody dead or alive, simply because of his incredible range and ability to play some very complicated changes with ease- sorry Jimi) but even more so in his songwriting. There are some astounding melodies and rythms here, particularly Peaches En Regalia and It Must be a Camel.

I just bought this record at a flea market in exchange for quite possibly the most well spent dollar bill ever.

I've had this since its original UK release and it sounds as fresh today as it did then. If you can get the vinyl do. There are slight differences in the mix. An utterly wonderful album, though I gather Frank did not rate it that much!!!!!!!!!!
