Definitely an obscure record of that genre particularly in the U.S. but if you are searching for that sort of "head music" that you crave this will certainly satisfy. Not an easy cd to find but definitly one that's worth hunting down if you are a big fan of art/progressive rock

their 4th is even more obscure than their previous 2. Peter Hammill tends to go overboard in his dramatics, esp. in the middle part of "Man-Erg" and that one fast part in "A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers". Other than that, "Man-Erg" has the most beautiful, haunting music from David Jackson on sax, and the lyrics continue on Peter Hammill''s dark path.
For many this is VDGG's magnum opus, standing shoulder to shoulder with other giants of the prog genre like King Crimson's 'In the Court of the Crimson King'. Indeed King Crimson are just about the only band who have ever produced music that sounds remotely similar to this. Operatic, melancholy with startling musicianship throughout, this is simply gripping from start to finish, not only do they not make them like this anymore, they never did. Bizarre, original and very, very good.
