****1/2 (5 star scale) No one ever relized that one of the best bands of all time, with perhaps the most unsung songwriter of all time, existed in Memphis, TN during the middle 70's. This album truly sounds as though it was released back in 1993. Not only is this album great, but any music fan who claims to know what they're talking about need to check out #1 Record, and especially Radio City. "I never travel far without a little Big Star" --j.teel

Listening to a Big Star album is like flipping a radio dial around and hearing the most perfect pop song ever written for a few unrecaptureable seconds before it fades back into static; there are always, in Big Star songs, a few gorgeous notes that stir your soul, surrounded by off-kilter harmonies and loose melodies that don't quite get you as high as you thought they would.

This particular album captures a lot of Alex Chilton's emotions and creativity, more so than his more recent solo efforts, but this album stands as a triumph that few others have since surpassed. Very evocative and engrossing.

This is definitely one of the best albums ever. The songs are emotionally devistating. Just get it.

I like Third/Sister Lovers, but I love #1 Record/Radio City. Third lacks Chris Bell in a big way, although Alex Chilton's genius is on display in many ways. #1 Record is perfect pop music that doesn't sound cheesy. Buy it today.

you absolutely have to have this album. it''s painful and beautiful.
Called "the most influential band outside of the Beatles,"Big Star, an obscure Memphis pop band, released 3 albumsbefore breaking up. "3rd", their final album, is dark andmelodic, and is consistently regarded as on of the greatestrecords of all time.
