Comments for Big Star, LiveE-MAIL: joeland@matt.ksu.ksu.edu ***1/2 (5 star scale) Good record, but not very representational of what the band was really like live, so I hear. --j.teelE-MAIL: Plante150@aol.com September Gurls is recorded abysmally. Sort of interesting hearing Alex Chilton doing the "Unplugged" thing before that became so unfortunately trendy.E-MAIL: nicastr@mail.idt.net A very good performance, especially the acoustic tracks. The sound quality is only average, but this is worth getting, as there is so little Big Star material available. This is a reissue of an often-bootlegged 1972 WLIR radio broadcast, featuring an interview by DJ Jim Cameron. The band showcases its more delicate (though not innocent) side, and Alex Chilton`s solo acoustic set is the album`s centerpiece. While this may not reveal all of the band`s nuances to new listeners, the album is a must-have for diehard fans: the performances retain a muted beauty, and the liner notes are excellent.Comments supplied by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Roadkill Consulting, Inc. |
