Comments for Phair, Liz, Exile in Guyville

I was disappointed when I bought this album. It left me feeling bored, and I know it will gather dust on my CD shelf. Some of the songs are pithy and funny though, and the lyrics to "Flower" will make the most jaded DJ blush. Liz may be a real babe, but I would rather listen to Heather Nova or PJ Harvey.

I think Liz Phair is amazing. I love both of her albums. She is supposed to have another one coming out very soon, does anyone know when?

Truly great. Marvelously understated music, some of the best lyrics of the decade. "The Divorce Song" is quite simply one of the best pop songs ever written. Her subsequent work has been rather disappointing in comparasion.

The first time I listened to this album it was only because I read that it was a track-by-track response to "Exile On Main St." by the Rolling Stones, which is one of my favourite albums. At first I hated it, but after two years it has steadily grown on me to the point where it is now one of my favourite albums. "Whip-Smart" is almost as good.

I bought "Exile" the day I got "Whip-Smart" because I'd already completely fallen in love with Liz Phair, and it's my favorite record ever released. I once lost a prudish, pompous-ass boyfriend who only listened to classical music by reading him Liz's lyrics--anyone who believes that she's not talented because she's blunt and magnificently low-fi isn't worth the time it takes to tell them that they're an idiot.

I have never met a person who has disliked this album yet. All I can say about it is that this album changed my life, that is how good it is. Mariam H
