Comments for Grace Pool, Grace Pool

Grace Pool`s Elly Brown most recently co-wrote a song on Shawn Colvin`s `Fat City` CD, but several years ago, she fronted this absolutely magical band, which should have hada place beside 10,000 Maniacs as one of the finest alternative-folk bands in America. Songs full of love and life and light are celebrated here. Love songs about passion and desire, and sad songs too, that reach out to comfort. This album is well worth looking for. A real treasure.

Recently rediscovered this group and its first and best album (of two). "Awake with the Rain" is an absolutely wonderful piece of work as is "Stay," a remake of a Blue Nile song. Worth a listen, particularly to those of you who grew up in the 80s.
I spent most of 1989 listening to the GP debut album after a girlfriend turned me on to it. I passed the word on to everyone I could and many became big fans. The second album didn't capture the same magic. I'd describe GP as a more pop version of Sarah McLauglin, with some Cure layering.
