Comments for Baerwald, David, Triage

"Triage" was the follow-up to Baerwald's more somber "Bedtime Stories", a reflective collection of views on relationships, social commentary, etc. Baerwald's solo development can be likened to that of Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar) in that his first solo effort was a quiet, soft look inwards,(Mould's Workbook) with the second outting taking on a caustic, extroverted critique of socail failings (Mould's Black Sheets of Rain). David's anti-government leanings and open questioning of such entities as the FBI, CIA, and the WHO, was just a few years before these sentiments materialized full-force in the OK. city bombings, the world trade center fiasco, and the exposure of militant anti-government groups. While David certainly doesn't appear to espouse such radically violent actions, the comparisons are evident.

Without a doubt one of the greatest albums I've got. TRIAGE is immensely versatile and simply every song of the album is great!

Baerwald's TRIAGE is perhaps the finest example of a concept album ever put to task. Typical of the artist, Baerwald aims high, and delivers. In TRIAGE, Baerwald examines a society festering from corruption; social, political and personal malignancies abound in the characters and their tales. The first half of the album spins America as a runaway train, with music that churns with frightening abandon. Despite the ugly truths of a society derailed, TRIAGE also offers hope in redemption and personal renewal. Certainly, this sounds heavy, and it is. But Baerwald keep things from getting too dark with an abundance of clever snippets and humorous elements to his otherwise Machavellian tales. Case in point: "Our love affair ended the day she tried to kill me/ She Said 'You know you're gonna die'/I said ' Yeah, but not Yet'." Tired of the standard fare? Buy this album.

Bearwald the Genius is just hitting his stride, and while the rest of the world listens to bands named Hootie and other top 40 trash, I'll keep my CD player on this beautiful, moody, creative rock masterpiece. Bring back Ricketts and I'll never leave the house...

TRIAGE kind of creeps up on you, and then smacks you in the face. It's the one album I can never stop playing. I'm waiting waiting waiting for David Baerwald to release another.

The only area in which "Triage" fails is in comparison to Baerwald's earlier "Bedtime Stories", and only then in the sense that "Bedtime..." was perfect and "Triage" merely a little less than such.

"Trigae" is the musical equivilant of an iron hand in a velvet glove....Baerwald's voice and fantastic music can sometimes make you miss the message of what he is really saying, and what he is saying should be taken seriously. I can only hope that he will be releasing a follow-up soon...

When I bought this CD, I did so only because I had 20 bucks in my pocket and it was "one of the guys from David & David!" (I found David & David entirely overlooked. I loved it.) The first time I listened to "Triage" I found it intersting but it didn't really strike me as "Listenable" until the second time I played it and actually bothered to "LISTEN". It hit with all the subtlety of a cheap punch to the jaw. Having worked for and with the Government I recognized alot of people in it's characters. I recognised the sentiment, accurate or not. It literally floored me and I spent a weekend mostly drunk listening to it over and over again. All this, years before Oklahoma city, World Trade towers, Waco, Whitewater (The list goes on...) It still devastates me when I'm not prepared. Why? Because "...Us? -We got nothing! No reason! No Clue!..."

it took a while to really *get into* Triage, but once I did, I was blown away.Conspiracies, Love, Anger, and disgust in a nation all rolled into one. Also, some great lines you can use : "New York City, c'mon","Am I alone in this?". Great Quotes. A CD not to be overlooked.
