The her's best album with Wings

marshall, you're right. This album did start his solo career. Unfortunatly, he chose to rekill his career after this.

John, don't be so rude againt Paul !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is the greatest musician now alive !!!!!!!!! Treat him with some respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul is a great musician. Multi-talented, great singing voice. I just disagree with most of his solo career decisions. He became someone who followed music trends (Goodnight Tonight) when he used to create them with the Beatles. He wanted to sellout - and obviously, his sucess was greater than the other 3. "Band On The Run" was easily his best solo album.

Well, you may be right, but i dont hink anyone of the exbeatles did anything really revolutionary. John just kept on sounding just like he did in the late years with the beatles, really got worse after the Beatles. Paul made many fine songs like "Band On The Run", "Mull Of Kintyre" etc. indeed John did even more great songs, but John and Paul were about equally good. I love Johns music too, I just like Pauls music as much. and I'm tired of seeing you critize him.

I typed a little error, I ment that George got worse

You're 90% right about George. ALL THINGS MUST PASS is a tremendous record, but then he tailed off with an occaisional good hit. I have to say, I prefer some of George's solo songs to Paul's. I didn't use any insulting tone. Just personal opinion - that's all.

But don't you like any other McCartney songs than "Maybe I'm Amazed?". and do you like just that song ?? Sure George made some good songs too, but in The White Album, Let It Be and Abbey Road he made such great songs, but he came nowhere near in his solo career.

I also like "That Would Be Something" because I'm also a Deadhead, and they played that one a lot in concerts in Jerry's last years. Some of the Band On The Run stuff is good too, but like I said, I personally think his songs (while commercially crafted) don't say a whole lot. Paul was the crafty musician and hit maker, but John was the personal honest human element. As for George, you're right, after ALL THINGS MUST PASS which had many Beatle level songs. He always got a raw deal with what songs of his were allowed on albums (1 per side). But yes, his Beatles songs were for the most part better than his solo work.

PAUL IS A TREMENDOUS MUSICIAN, SONGWRITER AND VOCALIST; A TRUE GENIUS AND SHOULD BE GIVEN HIS DUE EVEN THOUGH DURING HIS SOLO CAREER THE ONLY WORK THAT HELD UP TO THE BEATLES YEARS WAS BAND ON THE RUN. BUT HIS MARK ON POPULAR MUSIC HAS BEEN MADE EVEN IF HE NEVER WRITES ANOTHER SONG.

This is one of the few (maybe the only) solo (including Wings) album where he shows that he can really rock. Just listen to "Jet", "Let Me Roll It" and "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five".they really rock!!!! Not as much as "Helter Skelter", but say a song that rocks more than that one !!!!!
E-MAIL: Spiderman
Man, I love this record. Maybe the best solo Beatle album ever. It's absolutely among the top 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

clearly mccartney's masterpiece. the title track which is loosely based on the beatles and their running days. "helen wheels" a song about his van, rocked; "picasso's last words" was written on a dare from dustin hoffman to compose a song about the famous painter's last, dying words, "drink to me". all the songs gel really well together, and yes this is his best post beatles work, but one can make an arguement for "tug of war" ; and "ram", although not the masterpiece this album is, sounded more like the beatles than any other album by any of the ex-beatles. shrug.

Glance within these tetrad ramparts, incarcerated until the end of time, nevermore observing pleasing humanity anew - comparable to you-oo-oo, female nurturer, you-oo-oo, female nurturer, you-oo-oo
Band On The Run stands as McCartney`s best album overall. It also stands as the last album before McCartney sets into a mushy adult-pop pattern. The compositions are quite varied from the three-part "Band On The Run" to "Jet" ("I made her..."). On "Let Me Roll It," McCartney pulls off a Lennon-esque sound, and I don`t think he ever gets any looser than "Picasso`s Last Words" from here on out. "Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five" is a wandering composition in the vein of Lennon`s "I Want You So Bad (She`s So Heavy)," and it stands as a way to end off a great album. Band On The Run was originally released as Apple SO-3415, re-released in America on Columbia in 1980, and was also on Columbia CD before Capitol regained McCartney`s catalog in 1987.
