Comments for McCartney, Paul, Venus And Mars

actually this is a very good follow up album to "band on the run". great songs like "rockshow" laid the foundation down for what was the most successful tour of that decade. it''s one of the few mccartney songs that can be called cool. the album has other good tunes like "magneto and titanium man" (which has a style queen would later employ on many of their songs), "you gave me the answer" a sweet ode to old fashion love, and the melancholy "treat her gently- lonely old people", one of the prettiest and most heart-felt songs he has ever composed. the big hit was "listen to what the man said" a clever little ditty full of mccartney whimsy. on a personal note: "listen" was the one big hit of his that i truly felt would have been a great beatle song. the album was recorded in new orleans and the location sets the mood of the songs nicely. not as good "band on the run", but by this time everything he was doing was far superior to that of the other ex-beatles, and this album proves mccartney was here to stay as one of the best pop craftsman of his generation. shrug.
Pleasant McCartney album. Not essential. The resident hit single (Track 11) and the song after it (Track 12) are very nice. The rest of the album is good but forgettable. The 3 bonus tracks add nothing. Buy Band On The Run or a greatest hits album.
