Comments for Slade, Rogues Gallery

The best album to come out in 1985. The U.S. seemed to be swept away by Bruce Springsteen fever that year, but Slade was where the real fun was at.

To follow up their US release of the Power Supply album in '84, Slade had big shoes to fill.....their own. In my opinion, Rogues Gallery is a masterpiece. The only reason it didn't see quite the success of Power Supply, is because it was a little too British for the hardrocking American youth of the mid- eigthties......British phrases with which they couldn't identify. The same thing happened with the Crocodile Dundee movie. About nine minutes of Australian lingo had to be edited out to keep American moviegoers from becoming restless and losing interest. But hardcore Slade fans didn't mind.

This is without doudt an excellent slade cd, although in my opinion it really can't be rated as one of their absolute classics ie: Slade alive, Slayed and the truly "Amazing Kamikaze Syndrome". What this album represents for me is the most out and out commercial pop/rock Slade album ever. Songs like 'Harmony', 'Walking on Water' and 'Little Sheila' are ultra catchy, in fact most tracks were a potential hit single. The only weak points (which are still very good!) are 'All join hands' and 'Time to Rock'. I rate this album 7/10.

i have been a great fan of slade for many years and the track "all join hands" brings back fond memorys. Its words have a lot of meaning, because i was "all alone in the corner drinking wine" when i met my wife, and we always say, right up to this day that this was our song.noddy holder is a great showman and his voice and talents were not always appreciated.

Further to my previous comments this album has only one true weak link and that is it''s most successful track ie. "All Join Hands". It has without doubt certian qualities, although it is not a good advertisement for the CD as a whole.
One of the greatest rock albums of all time. Produced by John punter. All songs written by Noddy Holder and James Lea. One would think that adding keyboards to a band that never used synthesizers would be certain death. But after Van Halen`s 1984, suddenly every rock band had to have keyboards. Although this album is a slight departure from the classic Slade of the early seventies, as far as synths. are concerned, it is arguably their best. Every song is great. If you decide to get this on CD (and you must) make sure it is the 1993 UK release.
