Comments for Toto, Tambo

The album is called Tambu -not- Tambo!!! Similar to 'Kingdom Of Desire' (not listed here!).' 'Dave's Gone Skiing' is an instrumental, which, could, quite honestly be the bad bit to the album, but then I'm biased because I'm not too keen on instrumentals anyway (on Rock albums anyway). That aside, 'tis a must if you're a fan!

I must disagree with the above comment. This album is NOT SIMILAR to "KINGDOM OF DESIRE" which was little more than heavy metal hair band tripe. There is still a flavor of the heaviness of KOD, but TAMBU is a much easier to listen to album. Steve Lukather's domination is still evident, but David Paich does get a shot or two at the mike. "Dave's Gone Skiing" is done in the same vain as "Jake To The Bone" from KOD, but unfortunately the former pales in comparison. A couple of ballads on this album -- nothing as weak as "I Won't Hold You Back" from IV though. Highlights include "Gift Of Faith", "Time Is The Enemy", and "The Road Goes On". "Slipped Away" and "Drag Him To The Roof" are also good. Unfortunatley, the highlighted singles on the album, "I Will Remember" and "The Other End Of Time" are also the weakest tracks. Overall, the album ranks up with "The Seventh One" as among the bands best efforts. A DRAMATIC improvement over KOD.

KOD is heavy metal hair-band tripe? That's news to me, cause I think it was the best yet (NOT The Seventh One). I don't have this one yet, but you can be sure I will before the week's over with.

If comparing this album to KOD, the main thing that stands out is how much more refined Tambu is. The soungs are very polished and seem to know where they are going, start to finish. While I really like parts of KOD, some songs seem to shift gears in the middle (How many times) and they all lacked the clean, crisp sound of Tambu. The Road Goes On is one of the best I have heard in years, and I Will Remember is a typical Toto classic. Furthermore, songs like Time is the Enemy, Drag Him to the Roof, and The Turning Point, are all very different and unique, and I think this shows an excellent amount of depth to Toto's songwriting. Overall, a great album.

Anyone who says KOD was disjointed, or just for metal freaks needs their head checked! Tambu is a great album also, but the girls like it as well as it does cater for those who can only appreciate easy listening music. Tambu to me is probably Toto''s best so far, but you can''t beat the guitar tone of KOD.
