Comments for Mclaughlin, John, After The RainE-MAIL: abunardzic@bcinfohealth.com The whole album is permeated by a very somber, yet ''artistic'' feel. The best track gotta be Encuertos (Meetings). Guitar playing is quite restrained for McLaughlin (who is deemed as being the most fierce guitar player alive). Some people were not happy with John''s guitar tone (too muted). Elvin Jones is also superb. John (on Gibson guitar) is accompanied by the great JoeyDeFrancesco on his Hammond B3 organ, and by the very coolElvin Jones on drums. This trio smoothly plays some verynice jazz/blues numbers including a very lively jazz versionof My Favourite Things. All three artists are great soloists intheir own right, so each track gives them ample room totake the stand on their own. When together, they sound excellentand, being a Hammond B3 fan, I give Joey a 10 for his part.I feel this is McLaughlin`s best in a while, and he is soversatile, he`s a pleasure to listen to any time. I hope hedoes more of this particular (jazz/blues/organ accompanied)theme with DeFrancesco.Comments supplied by users do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Roadkill Consulting, Inc. |
