Comments for Painkiller, Execution Ground

This is the first Painkiller album I`ve ever listen to. But hell, it`s one great disc. Although I expected something more thrashier like Praxis` Scrafist (since virtually all the band was in it), but it sounded more grinding and sluggier than I expected. That doesn`t mean I`m dissingit. Actually it takes a little while to get into. Unlike otherJohn Zorn`s "jazzcore" (ie. Naked City) works, the tunes took a little longer to develop (rather than thrashing out for 30 secs). But it kicks major nuclear butts when it sank in. John Zorn`s(saxes, sounds and vocals) overblowing technique wails with unmatched intensity over an eerie ambient-groove provided by Bill Laswell (basses, sounds) and Mick Harris (drums, vocals). Imagine being trapped inside a mass grave with growls and screams reverberating somewhere inside.....
