Comments for Passage, Pindrop

The Passage were once described as `a head on crash between Philip Glass and The Sex Pistols`. Leader Dick Wittscreated layers and layers of synth sounds in patterns neverheard before nor since. Lyrics reflect his `angry young man`dealng with issues such as Northern Ireland, police brutality, unemployment and so forth. Not sure if this is available on CD.

Drums typically appear as a throbbing pulse, vocals frequently sound detached and distant. Later albums include some guitar (which could easily be mistaken for keyboard, the way it is played and mixed) but organs/synths carry the melodies on Pindrop. A strange experiment in pop music. Perhaps it makes some sense to note that Dick Witts played percussion in the Manchester Orchestra... and that he was pressed to mix the entire album in a matter of HOURS.
