Comments for Sharrock, Sonny, Ask the Ages

Sort of a comeback album for Sonny Sharrock as an electric guitarimproviser. Produced by Bill Laswell, Sharrock was backed by theband made up of Pharoah Sanders (saxes), Elvin Jones (drums) and Charnett Moffett (acoustic bass). Fans of Sharrock`s work fromLast Exit may be disappointed at the less ferocious rhythm sectionbut they will rewarded by the sheer emotional intensity of the blowingbetween Sanders and Sharrock. Although initially I have problem with Sharrock`s distorted guitar playing over an acoutic-sounding comp, butit all makes sense after several listening. I dare say it`s moreemotional than Last Exit. A must have for all Sharrock`s fans. This recording shows the beauty of improvisation.
