Comments for Sharp, Mike, Mike Sharp demos II

E-MAIL: scottm@bbs.telmaron.com
This is another collection of extremely impressive demos recorded by songwriter/singer/guitarist Mike Sharp during his mid-to-late 80''s sojourn in Carbondale, Illinois. This guy is talented in a serious way. There is an intentional diversity to the songs on here. I would pick the strongest of these as being the jazzy "Again", the bluesy "Ashes Fall", and the hard-driving "I Saw Red". The hooks on most of these songs are massive, the music well-constructed, and the lyrics quite good also. This man really deserves a recording contract. If you listen to these songs, they will not leave your head. I love the last track also, the adventurous and sparsely poetic "Her Dead Boyfriend", which is reminiscent at least a bit of the band Life Without Art - a band which Mike and I both played in. Mike is the most talented person that I have ever met and his music is among my favorite that I have ever heard.

Mike IS the most talented songwriter that I know, not to mention what a great engineer and producer he is. I was fortunate enough to play in a band with him in the mid-90's, and his music is truly timeless. The material not on any of these demos is equally as good, if not better (White Box). He was also an integral member of the band October's Child, which released some fabulous songs.
