Comments for Severinsen,Doc, Rhapsody For Now !

This is a commercial effort from Doc which features several members from his "Tonight Show" orchestra. Doc sound good - but the sports coat he`s wearing on the LP cover (yellow with pink flowers!) is GREAT !! Remember it`s Doc in 1973.

Listen to Doc's interpretation of Leon Russell's "A Song for You." Incredible trumpet playing! He displays an even sound through the whole register: even on the triple Eb at the end! "Tribute to Louie" is a wonderful homage to Satchmo in which Doc plays with Louie's spirit, yet does not imitate. Every trumpet player and trumpet lover should have this recording.

I saw Doc last week and showed him my 30 year old copy of this album. He stared long and hard at his photo on the cover and said "...what mouthpiece was I using?" Tremendous recording by an awesome talent.
