Comments for Dementia Precox, Mines 7"

Dementia Precox shifts it`s focus from the purely instrumental, industrial experimentationof their debut cassette product, THE NOT SO HIDDEN PERSUADERS, to a slightly moreaccessible sound with "Mines", their first 7`" single. "Mines" sounds reminiscent ofCabaret Voltaire`s "Nag Nag Nag" complete with a cheap drum box, bass, and some fuzz guitar. The truly unique features of this single, however, are the live metal percussion parts playedby Roger Revlon and the sound of synthesizer filters being modulated by the voice ofvocalist, Gyn Cameron. The flip side, "Dead On Two Legs Luncheonette", is a very shortnumber that sounds like it could have been a sick, demented cover version of a sixtiespop song from a band like the Zombies. The vocals go untreated for this track, but therest of the song utilizes the same instruments previously mentioned. Over all, the bandcould be best described as firmly planted in the punk attitude of short, direct song writingbut also adhering to avant guarde approaches that made early bands like Clock DVA,Chrome, and Minimal Man sound so new and intriguing.----Very good. Highly Recommended.
