Comments for Dementia Precox, SCHP e.p.

The SCHP e.p. marked the first Dementia Precox product to be released on 12" vinyl. It also marked the departure of percussionist Roger Revlon for newcomerDavid Paul (who later worked with the band Flipper) who introduced the bandto analog sequencers. This e.p. is a bit different than their previous materialin that the music is more intricate and contains a lot more synthesizer. Thesongs are stylistically more varied too. From the stark and dark "Untitled AsOf Yet" and "She`s Just (saving herself)" to the fun-loving "Coppola 13" to theslow, avant guarde "Fla(w) Girls" to the sweet and sentimental "Maladie d`Esprit",Dementia proved that a band can have variety and still deliver a solid theme anda patently unique sound to its audience. Gyn Cameron, lead vocalist, has often described this era of the band as `Industrial Jazz` ala early ClockDVA.Guitars, bass, drum machine, synthesizers, prepared piano, avant lyrics...yeah,he`s right! The success of SCHP encouraged the band to start a tour of the Midwestduring the mid part of 1982. In 1983, the band moved operations from its hometownof Dayton, Ohio to San Francisco, California in hopes of gaining more attention andexposure. Unfortunately, the band found itself in a plethra of problems while inSan Francisco which resulted in the departure of most of the band members. The two remaining members, Gyn Cameron and David Paul, continue on asDementia Precox but this time with an all electronic sound in a vein similar toCabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle, and D.A.F. They released a cassette productentitled _50_, but more problems arose soon after when the band gets robbed ofits equipment by a bunch of heroin junkies. This last blow ultimately breaks-upthe band and leaves a bad taste in the mouth of its two former members.----- SCHP isan intriguing release!
