Comments for Minor Detail, Minor Detail

The Hughes brothers found a way to combine the danceable, the futuristic and the ethereal. The upbeat numbers such as "Canvas of Life" and "Living In The 20th Century" were as catchy as any new wave pop tunes, while the slower songs "Hold On", "Why Take It Again", and "Columbia" score on powerful vocals and lush synthesized ambience. This is the one album I wish was recorded two years later...so I could own a copy on CD.

Check out a very young, pretty Aidan Quinn on the "Hold On" video!
Brothers John and Willie Hughes comprised Minor Detail inthis, their only U.S. release. The album includes the song,"Canvas Of Life," perhaps one of the most satisfying yetunderrated pop songs of the early 1980s. "Canvas Of Life"peaked at #92, while the album charted at a mere #187.Too bad. It`s a pretty good album.

Still one of my favourite albums. I was working as auditor for Polygram in Ireland and was present when the Hughes brother's agent played the sample tracks to the A&R guy. He talked about the deal which had been signed with the US, and spoke about a million bucks for 5 albums. Unfortunately they broke up after this album. I bought the album immediately and still have it today.

Still a great record 29 years later. One of my favorites from the early 80's. Wish the Hughes brothers continued the work, so much to offer.

I recently scored the "Canvas of Life" 12" in near mint condition; it was in a catch-all sort of bin, and I can't remember why I decided to check it out... Ah, but I'm glad I did--this song hits somewhere between Trans-X and Flock of Seagulls, in the most satisfying (thank you) way I could hope for.

I am looking for the I'll always love you song. Can I buy the cd somewhere, or would someone be the coolest and email me the mp3 or wav of it? Cheers, TC
My "Minor Detail" album was recently returned to me after many years in storage, unfortunately it is an old vinyl and I'll either have to find one of my old LP players (somewhere in storage or with other family member) or buy one on eBay or wherever. As I recall this was and is one of my favorites, it was played a lot on radio station KDKB. It had great singing, but my favorite thing was the nice use of vocoder through-out the album, which is my main reason for originally buying the album since I'm probably the greatest vocoder fan of all!!!
