Comments for Holiday, Billie, Lady in Satin

E-MAIL: GoateeJazz@aol.com
Spectacularly emotional album. The anguish in Billie''s voice is evident, making songs like "I''m a Fool to Want You" and "You''ve Changed" all the more compelling. Not for the casual listener or new fan, but a must for Holiday aficianados.
Many people write this album off as dribble because Billie Holiday was near death and she was backed by Ray Ellis and his orchestra. The gruffness of her voice does not take away her ability to interpret the songs as only Billie could. The contrast given by the silky strings makes for a very interesting ying-yang effect. This album should not be written off. It now has been released by Columbia in it 22bit remastering GOLD disc series and never sounded so good.
