I love the album. It was given me as a gift. In the beginning, with my very limited knowledge of Swedish, I didn't know the story but still enjoyed the music very much. Clearly, behind the powerful, expressive music, there was a rich, moving story. I was eager to learn it and actively sought the Vilhelm Moberg books ("The Emigrants", "Unto A Good Land", "The Settlers", and "Last Letter Home to Sweden") in libraries and bookstores. [They are all available on amazon.com, by the way.. and well worth reading!] Reading the books on which the musical is based naturally enriched my appreciation "Kristina"-the musical. Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus masterfully grasped the fullness, the flavor of Moberg's epic story about a family of Swedish emigrants who travelled to the New World to create a new home. What I wouldn't give to be able to see this magnificent work performed live...and hear the the soaring voice of Kristina who I'm sure brings the audience to tears with her prayerful and powerful "Du Maste Finnas" ... and witness the stalwart Karl Oskar's emotional watch over his beloved wife in "Stanna" ... and experience Robert's breathtaking last three lyrics..'till ett a hav' in "Ut Mot Ett Hav". Alas, I live in the USA and have never been to Sweden.. so until "Kristina fran Duvemala" comes to Broadway (det hoppas jag!!) I will cherish the music from the CD.

This is the musical "Kristina from Duvemåla" by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus (from ABBA). It is about swedish people emigrating to Taylors Falls, Minnesota in 1860. Main artist is Helen Sjöhom, Anders Ekborg, Peter Jöback and Åsa Bergh. The musical had it´s first opening in Malmoe/Sweden on october 7, 1994.
