Comments for Byrds, Younger Than Yesterday

E-MAIL: butler99@mail.idt.net
Younger Than Yesterday is a superb example of late sixties music. A comment elsewhere on this page suggests that "Mind Gardens" is ''not as good as the others''. This does a disservice to the writer, David Crosby. Although it doesn''t have a good beat and isn''t easy to dance to it is extremely experimental and an excellent example of ''pushing the envelope'' which was so typical of that time. The music of The Byrds is such a wonderful slice of creativity from that time but still stand on their own, if you just give a listen. By the way, interestingly enough The Byrds were consciously trying to emulate The Beatles in their look, from the boots to the Rickenbacker guitars while purposely making folk music an electric experience. I suppose they were simply not aware of the impact they would have on pop music.
This is one of the best albums ever made. As I`ve not heard "The notorious..." yet, I can`t compare it with that one, but compared with other artists this album is up there with Sgt. Pepper, Pet sounds and Odessey and oracle (by the Zombies, if you didn`t know). The stand-outs are Have you seen her face, Thoughts and words, Renaissance Fair, and the bonus tracks make this record even better. Watch out Mind gardens though, that one`s not as good as the others.
