Comments for Carl Volk, Estrada do Sol

E-MAIL: carlvolk@intermind.net
Acoustic Musician magazine just did a very nice review of Estrada do Sol in the January Issue (in "Disc Notes", pg. 64). Here it is: This CD by guitarist Carl Volk is simply beautiful. The combination of guitar and flute is exquisite. Alexander Zonjic exhibits a near perfect complement to Mr. Volk’s stunning work. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often. The selections range from the sweet and poignant title track to the rambunctious use of harmonics in his self-penned Fiber Optics and Blue Ridge Parkway. Volk’s readings of compositions from Antonio Carlos Jobim testify to his understanding and appreciation of the latter’s blend of Brazilian samba/American cool jazz and French Impressionism. There are also five other South American compositions, all performed with taste and finesse. All in all, quite a piece of work from this excellent guitarist.
This acoustic guitar music is a combination of jazz and classical music, including four duets with flute.See my website for more info: www.digimagician.com/guitar
