From the CD cover(back): Recorded at the Minaksi- Sundaresvara temple in the Tamil Nadu city of Madurai, this disc is the first ever recording of monks at prayer to the fish-eyed goddess Minaksi. Underlying these chants, which consist of hymns and poems in Tamil and poems in Sanskrit, is a lively rythym carved out by the mrdangam (double-headed drum), cymbals and harmonium.
