Comments for Mercyful Fate, In the Shadows

After Don`t Break the Oath, this is probably Mercyful Fate`s strongest offering ever. The sound of the album is beautiful. The guitars are like crystal and Diamond`s vocals are superb. Egypt is one hell of a song. Same for Shadows. Several of them take a few listenings to deliver their full effect, but the final effect is indeed full! Track 7 is a great instrumental, although all of the songs are of a caliber that the music could stand alone even without Diamond`s excellent mesmerizing harmony and wail. No metal guitarist will ever top Shermann and Denner. They play superior rhythm and even better solos. I recommend this album to anyone who wants to take a wonderfully dark musical voyage, masterfully delivered by this deserving but, alas, underappreciated band.
