Comments for Vigard, Kristen, Kristen Vigard

This is an awesome album. I only heard of it because a friend of mine in the recording business happened to be there during a session. He dragged me out and we got the cd. Am I happy. Every time I play this, I am amazed at how good it is. Every time I play this for someone, they ask who it is. My brother went home and ordered it immediately. My only complain-- I bought the cd a long time ago, when it was first out, and there's no follow-up. If your looking for excellent lyrics and a stunning vocal style, I definitely suggest this cd. To anyone out there with some control, get this woman another record contract. She is the largely undiscovered precursor to Sarah, Alanis, Tori, and the other female artists now making waves. Please, we want more.

Why is Burt Bacharach so vain that Kirsten Vigard's version of "God Give Me Strength" is not on the movie soundtrack "Grace of my Heart"? What a total waste of a fine performance! Does it exist anywhere other than on film? Wish I could by it!

I second that,but it's probably Elvis Costello's vanity, since his version is on the soundtrack album. I rented the movie and dubbed the tunes onto minidisc.

I doubt if it's due to anyone's vanity (especially Elvis' or Burt's). It is most likely MCA's decision to not promote an artist who does not "belong" to them. As much as this stinks (pee-yue does that stink!), it's standard industry soullessness. The reason I bought the damned soundtrack (and I don't buy soundtracks!) was for Kristen's voice on that song. Now I'm in the middle of a -so far- unsuccessful search for a cd that was released in '90. All I've come up with is this site, and the name of the label (Private Music).

I agree completely with all of the above. And if anyone finds this cd please let me know where I can purchase it as well.

I definitely agree that Vigard's voice makes the "Grace of My Heart" movie worth watching again and again. If anyone comes up with where to pick up the album, please email me.

I agree with all of you. When I saw the movie I was blown away by Kristen's performance of the song. Thankfully I looked at the soundtrack before I bought it. At first I hated Elvis' version because he couldn't even reach the notes. But after watching the movie on tape I think it's okay. He does change the "he" at the beginning of the song to "she" but in the middle he goes back to "he." I rented the video and taped her song. I have her album from Private music. It's not 100% consistent but her voice is wonderful.

I agree with all of you. I too bought the soundtrack for her wonderful voice. I was very dissapointed as well to find out it wasn't on there. I was persistent though and found her version of God Give Me Strength on a cd called "Love Songs, Romantic Movie Music." I'm not thrilled with the rest of the cd but it was worth buying just to get Kristen's version. I listen to it over and over again. The label that put it out is Rhino. It was just released this year. If anyone finds her other cd please let me know. It would be wonderful to have.

Thanks for tracking down Kristen's version of God give me strength. On a similar tack, why do Portrait do their version of "In a different world" on the "Grace of my Heart" soundtrack? Was that Kristen singing that tune as well in the movie? Or somebody else? Whatever, here's hoping Kristen puts out a solo album that features her marvellous vocals...real soon!

Actually ,please get your facts right. it was not burt bacharach,but the record company who vetoed kristens version from the release. legalities concerning a conflicting contract was quoted as the reason.

Her self titled CD from '90 is AMAZING.

I heard Varese Sarabande is supposed to be making a special extended two-disc version of the Grace of My Heart soundtrack in the not too distant future with all the unused musical material from or inspired by the film. Supposedly Capitol Studios up here on Vine Street still has all the raw tracks and all the mixes used or not in the film. There is a lot of Kirsten Vigard, For Real, Flea, Redd Kross, Dinosaur Jr. and other outtakes and alternate mixes floating around on DA-88 and on DAT in the various thrift shops around Hollywood. My friends who get more time in their life to do that have been really good and I have maybe 4 or 5 DAT's of alternate and secondary mixes from the Grace of My Heart film. A nice thing about the various unused tracks from the film Grace of My Heart floating around Hollywood is---there's a song from a heretofore deleted scene----counterpointing the funeral scene---in it the camera pans down to the beach below where some tie-dyed youngsters are singing a song called ``A Wave Dies'' which--in my opinion---would have been a great contrast to the tension of the funeral scene---had they left it in---sort of saying that the music community's heart at large is also saddened at Jay's suicide. Never found the actual footage of the scene---just a scene synopsis---but found a handful of production stills I put back in the film inbetween the funeral scene elements to see how it would look. Pretty interesting.

Am a big fan of female vocalists. Have been trying to find if other Kristen Vigard albums exist. Her self titled album is outstanding. Such a clear and versatile voice, not to mention the variety of styles she encompasses in one album. If you ever read this, Kristen, Please! Please! Make another album.....or two or three.
