Comments for Family, Fearless

Family swam against the progressive tide and focused on-get this-actual songs. They are probably considered progressive only due to their wide range of instrumentation. They later evolved towards R&B toward the end of their career, rather than gravitating towards concept albums like their Leicester counterparts Jethro Tull. None of Family`s albums can be considered classics due to the presense of fillers among the strong songs--but Fearless and the follow up Bandstand are their best.

Fearless has NO fillers as the comments already made imply. It is simply the finest example of truly English 70's music. Not forgetting that the voice of Family is still very much alive & still kicking in the year 2001. Haveing just come away from a concert in Birmingham - SOLD OUT - & the inventivmess & the shear blinding power is stronger than ever. Family never stopped - it's most certainly alive through Roger Chapman - Go See For Yourself ...

When I first heard this album it blew me away. Roger Chapman's vocals and John Wetton's bass all link with Charlie Whitney's guitar work, Rob Townsend's drumming and Poli Palmer's unique keybord work to produce, perhaps, Family's best ever combination of sound. Between Blue and Me is a true classic, and what about that laid back guitar solo on Take Your Partners? There's simply too much to mention but something to be savoured in every track on this album, which once again showed what a unique and talented outfit Family were.
