Comments for California, Randy, Kaptain Kopter And The

This is the "Fabulous" solo album that Randy California cranked out after leaving Spirit, although he later returned to Spirit. With this album, Randy intended to pay homage to his mentor Jimi Hendrix (note: California was actually in the Blue Flames group that Hendrix started in greenwich village, NY), while also displaying just what he learned from him. The absolute best track on the album is DOWNER, which sounds almost as if Hendrix himself could have wrote, but is Randy`s own creation. Most of the songs are covers, such as Paul Simon`s MOTHER AND CHILD REUNION and the Beatles` DAY TRIPPER. The Edsel reissue also features the promo single Live For The Day/Walking The Dog that Epic released around the same time. LIVE FOR THE DAY is a throw away, while WALKING THE DOG is excellent.
