Comments for America, Highway : 30 Years of America

A 3 CD box set. This collection is the most comprehensive available. It contains all but a few of their hits (Right Before Your Eyes and From A Moving Train being the only oversights). It also includes several alternate versions and perviously unreleased tracks. Warner/Rhino did an excellent job with the packaging. It is in a book format which provides a group history plus artists comments concerning songs. An OUTSTANDING collection.

I hesitated when I went to buy this... don't I have everything now anyway? So I thought. Then I looked closely and it DID have new stuff (well , not newly recorded stuff but stuff I didn't have and stuff you won't have without this collection) and it was in the form of a book (which.. it is!) that was sure to have info/pics I might not have heard or read before... true! The 'new' stuff should please those fans of early America as it is/was stuff not included on the first two albums (a tease I know). Anyway, it is a great collection, there IS new stuff, info and pictures, so I'd say go for it, even if you thought you had everything:)

When winter gets you down, grab this awesome 3-CD collection, sit back, close your eyes and its summer! I had never listened to much America until fall of 2000 and during the summer of 2002, it was all I listened to! My boyfriend and I had the opportunity to see them in concert in Chesapeake, VA last May and it was, hands down, the best concert I've been to. Each one of the guys has a certain songwriting style: Dewey's songs are very detailed, describing what he sees or what he is doing. Gerry's songs are about emotions, usually love and Dan's songs were somewhere between Dewey and Gerry. Combining all of these wonderful songs into one collection is a dream come true! You can hear the big hits ("Tin Man," "Horse With No Name," "Sister Golden Hair," "Lonely People") as well as some of their other album tracks. If you listened to America in the 1970's or you are looking for REAL music, and not the poor excuse for music we hear on radios today, then buy the "Highway: 30 Years of America" collection. I guarantee you'll love it as much as I do!

Yes, this is a great compilation - the remastered sound quality is really noticeable on the tracks from the first album - when are Warners going to do a full sonic upgrade on this blockbuster America album with a bonus disc of the original demos?!
