Comments for Andrea Bocelli, Con Te Partirò

Taken from my Andrea Bocelli website at http://www.geocities.com/anab_rocks/bocellimiracle.html: As you may have guessed, this was Andrea’s most popular song (and it probably still is!). Okay, I’ll admit the photo shoot for this single isn’t as surprising as other Andrea Bocelli photo shoots for singles I’ve seen, but that doesn’t matter. It ain’t horrible because Bocelli has a nice pose, and the garden-like setting is pretty. Anyway, years after its popularity and the staggering success of its remake, Time To Say Goodbye with Sarah Brightman, what is left to be said about Andrea’s original solo version of his most well-known song, the first of his songs I ever heard? That it’s pale in comparison to Time To Say Goodbye and its future follow-up, the Canto Della Terra (another of his best singles I own)? Heck no!! I thought that it was Luciano Pavarotti who sang it, since I never heard of Andrea before 1997. But when I saw the concert Ein Abend In Pisa (A Night In Tuscany) on TV in early 1998 and discovered that Andrea sang it, I then knew who it was. It took me a while to get used to this song, and when I did, now every time I listen to it, I wonder why this song emerged as his most popular single, taken from his self-titled 1995 album, which hit multi-platinum status left and right. Having spent weeks at #1 on end over in Europe in 1995, you might think this is crazy if you never heard of an opera singer reaching #1 anywhere. However, the new version with Sarah was considerably more successful. Not even the Canto Della Terra would ever keep up the pace with that, despite being the only other Bocelli single in print (but with the Céline Dion collaboration). Like it or not, Andrea’s version of this hugely popular song is my favorite version of what you might call Time To Say Goodbye. (Sarah fans: no offense.) I’ve heard it over and over and over again and it never grows old. Ever. I just dig singing along to that song. “E Chiove” is that sexy Latin song featured on the likes of Bocelli, Per Amore, and Romanza. Oh, yeah, the latter of these ends up selling millions globally. And oh, yeah, this single has gone long out of print. I got this on the same day I got A Question of Honour. Like QOH and most of the other singles I own, this was made in Germany. Regarding the second track on here, yes I know the Latin influence has seduced me deeply. Hasn’t it done the same to you (especially if you enjoy songs with an influence like that)? I would expect Andrea to put some more Latin beat into songs on his future works. That should take care of this single once and for all.

I was just kidding. I wasted money on this single for TWO SONGS hoping I’d get different versions of that great CTP song, instead, all I got was the two songs mentioned here (I already had those on “Romanza” at the time)! This is sheer madness! I love CTP but I wished to heaven that Bocelli would have done some dance remixes. Even “Time To Say Goodbye” (single) was better because it had TWO selections albeit by Sarah Brightman that you can’t normally find elsewhere. Sorry, Bocelli.....I can’t get singles of yours except there’s some song that doesn’t get jammed into other singles.
