Comments for Andrea Bocelli, Aria (The Opera Album, that is)

Sorry to rain on everyone’s parade here, but......I am a major Andrea Bocelli fan. I’ve bought six of his albums and two of his DVDs to date. This was the second of his discs I bought thinking it would top my first purchase, “Romanza,” and guess what: it didn’t. I found no appreciation for most of the tracks here, because Andrea sounds like he wants to get freaky with opera instead of bringing life to it. On “Di Rigori Armato Il Seno,” for instance, he sounds like he’s been doing drugs. And his rendition of “Che Gelida Manina” is ridiculously pathetic, except for the fantastic high C. I have to say José Carreras did WAY better on that aria. I love this album only because of his “Questa o Quella,” his “Recondita Armonia,” and the front cover (one of his best photo shoots before those evident from “Sacred Arias”). Even “Viaggio Italiano” had more convincing renditions, whilst being little else but recycled tracks plus “new” entries. Also, I would rather much listen to his pop songs than his opera arias. Sorry, Andrea. This is the first (and hopefully last) time you’ll ever hear me trash you like this. Unless there is something seriously wrong on any of your future works, you won’t ever hear me dissing you like that EVER again. :)
