Comments for Flower Kings, The, Scanning The Greenhouse

This is a compilation album taking work from four earlier Flower Kings' albums: The Flower King - 1994 Back In The World Of Adventures - 1995 Retropolis - 1996 Stardust We Are - 1997 The tracks 'The Flower King' and 'Stardust We Are' were rerecorded in 1998 for this compilation. I haven't heard the original recordings, so I can't comment on whether these are better or worse. Originally, this recording didn't grab me. It took a few spins to get into the complex music. Slowly, however, the intricate, subtle, beautiful melodies created by Mr. Roine Stolt and company have grown on me. Many prog fans love this band, and I can see why. They show incredible musicianship, a knack for creating catchy songs, and the ability to go over the top without sounding too pretentious. I'd have to say this was one of my best music purchases in recent memory.
