Worth it for "Tropical HotDog Night" and "Love Lies" alone. Would have been a great single. Tropical HotDog Night was the first thing I ever heard other than Trout Mask. On the strength of this alone I went and got the whole catalogue.

Tropical Hot Dog Night is the best track ever laid down by anyone ever, fullstop. This record is a miracle.

His best other than "Trout Mask" in my opinion, that one getting the nod because it`s 2LPs rather than one.This is serious stuff in an approachable form. The rhythms can be intense and penultimate, as with tracks 1 & 11 especially(I consider these to be among the greatest moments in 20th Century composition). There is strange instrumentation on here, more tuba than bass, but it all serves well on this strong collectionof material. This album is relatively accessible, more so than the Captain`s other great albums, but the music is among his best. Words fail me. If you like music with intelligence and sophistication, and you`d like to hear the beatkick in 17 different directions at once, then you MUST hear this. This is an excellent place to begin an investigation into Beefheart`s music.
