Comments for Carcass, Symphonies of Sickness

Whoa nelly this album kicks ass! It's quite...sick, and the last 16 tracks, taken off the album Reek Of Putrefaction, are just noise. But they still rock. It's really harsh and definitely not for the squemish...

Carcass's second album, Symphonies of Sickness, is my personal favourite album of all time. It's a 'must-have' for anyone who is into ultra grindy riffs and blasts of sonic torment mixed with the incredible vocal contributions of Carcass's three founding members. The subject of the lyrics..., well let's say you can almost smell the warm decay of a purulent cadaver as it dissolves in its putrefactive secretive enzymes. Musically, everything is along the same lines as 'Reek...' only with added precision and technicality. Owens drumming is right up the front, and W. Steer's guitar is much more audible than on 'Reek..'. Walkers bass is much more prominant too, fortunately. The cover art (or at least on the old version, anyway) features dead bodies, and also lumps of animal meat, to illustrate the fact that, as Ken Owen once said, animal and human meat is one and the same. All in all if you only own one Carcass album (wich is unadvisable because they are all masterpeices!) this is the one to have. From Daniel.

The cover brings new meaning to the phrase "food for thought" It provides hours of entertainment for the whole family.

Symphonies Of Sickness tracks fit with a good bloody horror trash movie - it's total morbid and sick! Reek of Putrefaction is a masterpiece that isn't for anyone!! No words will describe such rotteness!!!

If anyone dares give this album a rating of less than 10.0, I will find them and kill them! and that goes for every other Carcass release, too.
Tracks 11-26 are actually bonus tracks taken from thegroup`s prior LP, "Reek of Putrefaction."Symphonies, as is typical with any Carcass release, is abrilliantly crafted opus. The songs often employ multipartstructures, and the lyrics are vividly precise descriptionsof everyone`s favourite morgue-related activities. Theproduction is a little rawer than Necroticism, but thismerely serves to add to the feel of the CD, which isanother must-buy for anyone who claims to have anyknowledge of metal in general.(The Reek tracks are much shorter, often 1-2 mins in length, and are more underproduced than Symphonies. They are alsomuch simpler, featuring extremely catchy powerchord rhythmicstrumming rather than the more involved riffwriting to befound in the group`s later work.)
