an absolutely great album from a great woman

Quite an impressive album, the first solo by Belinda Carlisle after the Go-Go's. "Mad About You" is the best song on it by far, catchy and enlighening, and emotional. "I Need A Disguise" is a pop gem. "I Feel The Magic", "Shot In The Dark", and "Gotta Get To You" are the other strong points in the album, as well as "Since You've Gone". However a couple of songs show weakness, "Stuff And Nonsense", "From The Heart". Overal not bad but nowhere near the excellence of HEAVEN ON EARTH.

Belinda Carlisle's first solo album, after the breakup of the Go-Go's. Belinda's distinctive voice is the main draw, and a few of the songs on BELINDA are great pop/rock songs: the Top 5 hit "Mad About You", "I Need A Disguise", the hard-rocking emotional track "Since You've Gone" (co-written by Fleetwood Mac's Lindsey Buckingham), calypso-influenced "Shot In The Dark", and girl-powerish "Gotta Get To You", and not to forget the Euro-pop gem "I Feel The Magic". However, a few moments like "Stuff And Nonsense" are weak and somewhat annoying. BELINDA is a triumph, with a more Euro-pop sound than all of her other albums. Great mid-1980s pop though with first-rate moments. 8/10.
