Comments for Cheap Trick, Cheap Trick [1997]

A must for anyone who has ever liked Cheap Trick before 1980. One of their best ever. "Anytime" is the perfect single that mixes the 70's into the 90's. Kids will love it, if they hear it.

I saw Cheap Trick on the 11th july in Beloit, They put on the best show I have ever seen. The band seemed dead and they put out some of their best music ever. I owned every release they had and "they are back" There was close to 40,000 to see them. Awesome

Well it's about time! That was my first reaction to their newest release after listening to it. This is the Cheap Trick We all remember. The album is loaded with all kinds of singles and Ricks guitar playing is fantastic as usual. But I would have to say the highlite of the album is Robin Zander. He's probably the most underated singer in rock'n' roll. The man of a thousand voices.

I agree that Robin is one of the most underrated singers---Trick as a band is also WAY, WAY Underrated. They are truly America's Beatles. This album finishes the direction they started taking after Woke up with a Monster (1994). Sadly, I don't think that Red Ant will release many singles. A shame if they don't because at least 70-80% of this brilliant album holds "standout" pop singles--that could be played on AC, AOR, and Top 40 format stations. "Say Goodbye" should definitely be released if hasn't already (any word on the proposed singles?). I'm starting an online campaign to get Red Ant to do for Cheap Trick what the last two idiot labels didn't do properly: Release these brilliant tracks and PROMOTE this release!!!

Like a lot of people, I'd just about given up on these guys after almost fifteen years of so-so albums, "song doctors", etc., but this puppy smokes. "Woke up with a Monster" was a step up from their more recent stuff, but this is a full-blown comeback, as much as I hate that word. "Anytime" is a perfect blend of Nirvana style power and classic 'Trick, while other power-pop gems here like "You let a lot of people down" could sit proudly with the classics on "In Colour" and "Heaven Tonight". On my top ten for 1997.

When I saw the cover of this new album, I almost had a stroke ( I'm not sixteen anymore )! It screamed: Cheap Trick is back! It is a great album!

this album is a total must have for all those hard core fans cheap trick is awesome. i think they don't get the credit they deserve i'm sure if it wasn't for them we wouldn't know the true meaning of rock. most of us wouldn't feel the way we do now about them as we did 20 years ago!

i think this album is their best, & the next album couldn't come fast enough for me ! the australian version has a different cover & 2 bonus tracks but the american cover is better. i love the secret track at the start of the american release. pause at the start of the disc, then rewind.....bingo, 3 or so minutes of outtakes ... ...cool !! keep rockin guys. ....from spelloman...downunder...

Very disappointing album, after releasing 4 of the best melodic AOR albums ever (Standing On The Edge, The Doctor, Lap Of Luxury & Busted). Now they've gone mostly grunge. Hopefully the upcoming album (2003) Special One will be much more melodic. Say Goodbye is the only worthwhile track on this '97 disappointment.

Like true anglophiles the trick ignore the awful 80''s and go straight from 70''s to 90''s....Monster was easily their best since Dream Police but this stands alongside anything they''ve done, and therefore anything period. The most impressive musical comeback since Sinatra went to Capitol. I''m off to TF3 and all is right with the world once more!
More along the lines of their debut album or All Shook Up. Cheap Trick is back, as far as production is concerned. The instrumentation is raw and rocks. Unfortunately, the most melodic songs are the slow ballad types- "It All Comes Back To You" and "Shelter". They have the sound, now let`s see Cheap Trick write some great songs like "Surrender" or "Dream Police" again.
