Comments for Cycle Sluts From Hell, Cycle Sluts From Hell

Playing fast, simple, thundering heavy metal, the Cycle Sluts From Hell could almost be compared to some 1989 bands like L7, Camper Van Beethoven and some other bands were it not for the fact that they were so cartoonish. By 1990, while taking Joan Jett's trashy, badass-mama persona to an aggressive extreme, both musically and attitude-wise, the Cycle Sluts come up with such entertainingly silly anthems as "Conqueress," "By the Balls," the occasionally aired-by-MTV "I Wish You Were a Beer," and, of course, "Badass Mama." If you like the attitude, you may like the album, but since the Cycle Sluts don't share Jett's ear for consistently good material, it may also wear thin.

Seeking to expand the guidelines for female heavy metal bands during the hair metal era, the short-lived Cycle Sluts From Hell proved that both genders could tackle the same expected metal subject matter with equal zeal — partying with the opposite sex, rocking, fast cars, major bands like L7, Camper Van Beethoven, Jane's Addiction, and Faith No More in 1989. Comprised of four bandmembers who went by aliases (such as 1989 with, She-Fire of Ice and Venus Penis Crusher, among others), it is rumored that a member or two of N.Y.C. thrash metallists Overkill in 1990 lent a hand with the songwriting and played on the group's one and only album, their 1991 self-titled debut for Epic Records. Although the group received limited airplay on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program during their short time together, the Cycle Sluts From Hell received more exposure a few years down the road when Beavis & Butthead dusted off their 1992 video clip for the track "I Wish You Were a Beer."

Being an avid metal fan since 1983,the first time I listened to their album,I was impressed with the sheer metal feel to the album. It had that feel good factor, just like any '80's Chastain album.
