A classic album! It often pops up on top ten all time greatest albums lists. Top Tracks: "London Calling", "Guns of Brixton", "Lost in the Supermarket" and "Spansih Bombs" (+ most of the others)

Ditto here. This is a MUST have!

London Calling is my favorite album ever. Has been from the day it was released. Especially Clampdown, Rudy Can't Fail, Wrong 'Em Boyo and Guns of Brixton. A true piece of work!

This is my favorite album, too!

Rolling Stone Magazine always put this album in the top five everytime they do a best of list. There is a reason it always makes this list. It is literally one of the best rock and roll albums every made. To better understand why this band has taken such a honorable place in rock and roll history, I recommend getting a hold of their movie "Rude Boy". If you lucky enough to live near a decent video rental shop, check out the movie!! If your in the U.S. try Tower Video or Blockbuster Movies. Ciao from Portland, Oregon. Richard C.

One of the best records ever made! An interesting note to this album is that The Clash's record company at the time (Epic, I think) did not consider this to be a double album because of the total recording time which did NOT include the track "Train in Vain" which was not listed on the record sleeve. Had "Train in Vain been included in the recording time it would have been considered a double album. The band were furious and wanted to get out of their record deal but couldn't and thus added much filler to their next triple album Sandinista! This from the mouth of Joe Strummer himself.

Having had some dealing with CBS records, I can certainly understand the bands frustration. CBS always seemed to have a policy of eating it's young, this being one of the earlier examples etc. Nevertheless, Strummer WOULD say that, wouldn't he? Of course the fact that thay were smoking too much ganja and not taking enough speed MIGHT have a little something to do with why Sandinista stunk up the joint etc.

Of course London Calling was the last great album from The Clash. After this they died slowly but surely, but not very gracefully. When you're in the Best Rock 'n' Roll band in the world you just want it to go on for ever. But in the Clash's case stopping after London Calling would have been the best plan. They could have made a single album out of sandinista, and taken a few tracks of combat rock, cut the crap. I for one would love to see an official live album from the Clash - even the Rude Boy soundtrack. They had more energy and feeling than any of these new bands (e.g Green Day) will ever have.

does anyone know the name of a relatively "known" Clash song that sounds like really cheesy Reggae? I heard it on the radio, but missed the name. the song is great, and i would love to have it.

More of the same: this is definitely one of the best albums ever made, and easily the best by the Clash. "Spanish Bombs", just might be the best thing they ever recorded (well, maybe "Complete Control" or "Safe European Home.....").

The so-called "cheesy reggae" song is probably Rudie Can't Fail. For future reference "cheesy reggae" is called SKA to most people.

It is catchy from the very beginning. Then the messages and plots of all the songs become clear. Then you understand most of the lyrics. Then you realize it is just brillant. Then you listen to it a million times. I just don't get tired of this album. It's all so amazing. Although "London Calling," "The Guns of Brixton," and "Spanish Bombs" are fantastic, I think some of the ones that no one ever mentions, like "the Card Cheat," "Wrong 'em, Boyo," and even "Brand New Cadillac" are just as good. My point is; this is an unbelievable album. Truly.

Simply put, an album for the ages.

Did someone say the last good Clash record? Definetly not, probably the last punk Clash record, and maybe their best (although Give 'Em Enough Rope has always topped my list) but they had a few brilliant moments yet to come. Cut The Crap however is another story all together....

A stunning album, nothing short of magnificent! This, along with Combat Rock, is really where The Clash left behind punk (eg, Londons Burning) and moved into more experimental style music. Fave tracks include Rudie Cant Fail, London Calling, Hatefull and Death or Glory. All bands should evolve like the Clash did here, and its a good thing. Last note: Was once voted No 1 out of 150 essential post punk albums, also No 4 out of 100 for best cover

This album signalled the end of punk rock. And what an ending, a masterpiece. It is not as exciting or fresh as "Give ''em enough rope" which still sounds fresh today, but this album epitomises THE CLASH. This group changed the face of music forever, if it wasnt for THE CLASH everybody would still be listening to Disco. Put simply, THE CLASH ARE THE GREATEST BAND EVER!!
"Train In Vain" isn`t listed on the sleeve. This is an *amazing* album.
