Comments for Clash, The, Sandinista!

A very experimental album. Ecclectic. From gospel to calypso, reggae and back to punk. Not a dissapointment, but don't expect Give'em Enough rope, either... An excellent album...

Has a lot of duds, but also some great songs including "Magnificent 7", "The Call Up", "Police on My Back", "Somebody Got Murdered", "Up in Heaven", "The Leader", "Charlie Don't Surf", and "Washington Bullets". Would have been much better as a double, or a single, album.

Actually, I find this the best Clash album. It's certainly their least commercial, but the experiments with dub are amazing and under-rated. Guest appearances by Tymon Dogg and Mikey Dread add to the mix. This album was an expansion of everything they'd done previously and their next album "Combat Rock" was really only a polishing of what they did here.

Although this album is uneven, with quite a bit of filler (Ivan Meets G.I. Joe? One More Dub? Mensforth Hill???), there are enough jaw-droppingly amazing moments to compensate-I'm thinking of Police On My Back, If Music Could Talk, Washington Bullets, Somebody Got Murdered, and the like.

While some consider this album a disappointment, Sandinista! h highlights the creative development of the band. As mentioned in previous comments, the album is an eclectic fusion of various musical styles, giving a hint of what was coming in Combat Rock. What some may consider filler, others would view as experimental stretching of musical boundaries by the band. All in all, a great album. Certainly different than London Calling, but great nonetheless.

Another great album, and its good to see a band that only lasted 7 or so years can get a triple!!!! YES!!! Anyway, I was slightly dissappointed with all the dubs (one more dub, version pardner et al) but overall, terrirfic. Hey, is it just me or does lightning strikes (not once but twice) sound similar to mag 7??????

Too often dismissed as overlong, and full of filler.Instead What The Clash produced was a full coming of age,and a natural progression from London Calling.Showed why The Clash were head and shoulders above all the punk bands of their era. With so many musical styles explored,if I was stuck on a desert Island I'd wish I had a copy of Sandinista with me(and something to play it on of course!)

I know other albums those are so complex, poetical and experimental but at bottom this one is the best of the bests. I can't understand why some critics exclaim the grandeur of London Calling - it's very mediocre in spite of 4-5 magnificent songs. Sorry for bad English.

great album for a wild time in history
An excellent, long album.
