Comments for Coltrane, John, A Love Supreme

Coltrane's playing on this record is incredibly intense. Probably due to mouthpiece problems, his tone is often anguished and raw, and undeniably powerful. Once you've absorbed Trane's playing, check out Elvin Jones on this record. I think its his best with Coltrane.

This is one of 'Trane's' seminal musical efforts. It reflects his spititual reawakening. If you would like a clear idea of 'Coltrane's style', this would be one of his musical effots to have.

Without a doubt, his best. The group is tight and Trane plays with some serious power. It's one of those rare recordings that forces a listener to look inward. I wouldn't recommend this for the first-time Trane listener, though. One would have to get a handle on where he comes from musically first (The album Crescent is a good starting point).

Loving and appreciating it is a necessary condition for being jazz fan. Frank Cohen

I'm sorry, speak spanish only. Espléndido, maravilloso. Uno de mis discos que siempre tengo a mano para escuchar cuando sea. Cada año que pasa esta obra maestra adquiere muchas mas connotaciones de las que en su tiempo percibieron. Gracias John. A mis 19 años me has atrapado aquí en Barcelona. ¿? No me lo puedo explicar... Yo, que soy discjockey de una de las salas Pop por excelencia de esta ciudad... ¿Quién pudiera haver sido educado bajo el lenguaje del Jazz para comprenderte (comprenderos) mejor... Fantastic!

This album is probably the best that I own. Coltrane's rhythm section reacts to just about everything that Trane does, building with him, etc. The album is a religious one, which is always a benefit. The tone is about as open as I've ever heard him play, in my opinion, a great sound that Coltrane gets. Great quartet. Great album.

Can't beat this one for the emotional power it contains. It has several incredible stretches of excitement. A great one.

This album is so good, I try not to play it too much, so as not to destroy its beauty. It's all here, the search, the pain, the beauty. If anyone doesn't like jazz because they can't understand it or they can't relate to it, pick this one up. And for all you Trane fans or jazz fans that don't have enough Trane, get Stellar Regions. Pretty new to the market, and if you've got the ears, it's as good, if not (dare say it) more powerful than this one. Check it out.

A very moving album. The four movements form a complete thought. Put the album on, lie down on your bed and get lost. IF any of you are in san francisco go to the "one mind temple", they have trane as their patron saint (2-4 hour service with extended jazz jams).

A very powerful album. The apex of his work up to this time. After this, he would take his music to a whole new level. That music was even heavier.

Great playing! The work on this album would take Trane's playing from one world to another. A religious experience for Coltrane and anyone who listens to this record.

as i return, later in life, to the final movement of this music i began to understand the depth of the sadness within. and i turn, ashamed, from the tortured anguished amen chord, unsure how to live, to breathe.

Can ANY album touch this in its pure unfiltered emotional quality? i think not! Seriously, this is A nearly PERFECT aural experience that transcends categories and styles. If you don''t have this, GET IT!!!!!
One of Coltrane`s religious experiences.

Another great jazz album, but not as great as Kind Of Blue. This one is more or less relaxed, and is a large composition split up into 3 parts, with perfect names to ease the body and the mind. John Coltrane is probably the best saxophonist, period. He really went experimental after he stopped playing with Miles Davis. Records like those were cool. Pity he didn't live very long.
